Performing adequate and appropriate hand hygiene has been accepted as one of the most important methods of reducing the transmission of pathogenic microorganisms in healthcare settings. Although scientific studies have demonstrated this effect, other studies have shown that adherence to recommended good hand hygiene practices remains low among healthcare workers.
