Overall, the removal and control of biofilms can be a challenge, especially when they have been allowed to develop to maturity. When combating the formation of biofilms it is best to deal with them when they are young and to thereby essentially prevent the development of mature biofilms. Once a mature biofilm has developed, typically over a few days or longer, it can be more difficult to remove.
