The GI Endoscopy Department houses procedures that aid in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of digestive diseases and cancers. As an employee within this department you will typically support the procedures as well as the reprocessing of the endoscopes used in those procedures. These roles require the handling of contaminated endoscopes, handling of chemicals, and the operation of mechanical equipment. As a result, you can be exposed to risk if safety policies and procedures are not followed.

What Will I Learn?
This course will introduce you to the potential risks that exist for employees and patients as well as the common safety precautions associated with the reprocessing of endoscopes that are used in the GI Endoscopy Department's procedures. The risks that will be covered in this course include infection, chemicals, repetitive tasks, and automated endoscope reprocessors (AERs).
