Steam is just steam, right? To a certain extent, this is true. All types of steam are capable of providing effective sterilization, but healthcare facilities have choices and should understand the different types of steam available.
0.5 CE Hours Approved by: CBSPD & IAHCSMM
What Will I Learn?
While the majority of healthcare facilities still use steam generated by a central boiler system, Clean Steam may reduce chamber-cleaning efforts and can also reduce the cost of maintaining and replacing instruments. ANSI/AAMI ST79 and AAMI TIR34 provide guidance and recommendations on the steam used for sterile processing departments.
The objectives for this CE course are:
- Describe what is currently driving Clean Steam initiatives in healthcare
- Define and explain the different types of steam available for healthcare sterile processing
- Understand water quality and water treatment options related to steam
- Describe the advantages and disadvantages of Clean Steam
