Most departments that are supported by Central Service are not knowledgeable about the complexities of this department’s role in infection prevention. It is not due to a lack of interest, but more likely, lack of time and often a lack of adequate staffing that prevents learning. In spite of the challenges, it is advisable to at least include Central Service in orientations for newly hired healthcare employees, so that they understand how this department supports their area and many other areas in the healthcare facility.
